Vacation time

To me that means even more knitting, starting new projects and, if possible, sightseeing around my home country.
As usual, this blogpost ends with the sightseeing, for those who are not interested. They can skip the last part of this blogpost ;)
Starting new projects. There is a shawl I wanted to do for a long time. But I didn't have the right yarn, Partly, that is. Now, visiting the Weversmarkt at Hoorn, I was able to buy the right combining color. And of course nothing could stop me from casting on! Not even the perfect lunch, served by my husband LOL

Another brand new project is a sweater. The first one in ages! I used to knit sweaters way back, but nowadays I only knit shawls. This yarn and pattern I couldn't resist. The yarn is from indie dyer Loret Karman, the pattern is Westbourne by Isabel Kraemer. You can find them on Ravelry.
And the last one is Now is the time. A shawl with sleeves, Shleeves is the pattern name.

And then we went on a trip to Noord-Holland. One day we were in Amsterdam, a day at Bergen aan Zee (at the beach) and a day in Hoorn. And of course we made some stops on the road to visit yarn shops :-)
Here are some pictures, just to give an idea of the beauty of my country.

Sarie and serenity

Just before the end of the school year I was on an international congress about school libraries. It was inspiring to meet school librarians and teacher librarians from all over the world. There also was a gala dinner, the opportunity to wear My Sarie Marais. I chose to wear a little black dress and my shawl. For those of you who don't know me, or don't recognize a hand knitted shawl, I'm the one in the middle ;-)
After the congress my summer vacation started. So besides doing some painting on the house I was able to finish another shawl. A very different one, simple and plain and serene. The pattern is referring to cobble stones and pathways. Mein Berlin.
